This software will open the correct ports on your router, so that you will be able to play Virtual Pool 3 online.
NOTE: If you are using a USB Mobile Internet Dongle, then you may not be able to play VP3 online at all because the mobile phone network does not allow you to open any ports at all. You may call your mobile provider and ask for help but will likely be told that they cannot do anything. The only mobile broadband provider that I know works with VP3 (without needing to open ports) is the 3 Network in the UK. You can purchase a Mobile Internet USB Dongle from 3 here.
You must have uPnP enabled in your router. This software *does not* enable UPnP on your router.. Most routers come as standard with uPnP turned on by default. If your router does not have UPnP enabled already, you will need to enable it yourself. Ask for help in the VP3 Gamespy lobby. This software also automatically starts the needed services on your pc so that it can access the router.
Ports it opens: 13139, 27900, 28900, 29900-29901, 60876 - 60887. These ports work absolutely fine for me, so should work for you as well.
A forum for both versions of this software is available here. Please use it if you have problems.
If you find that this software is useful to you, then please donate
NOTE: There are two versions of PPO. Please always try the new version first, and then if that does not work then try the old version.
NEW VERSION
You need .NET Framework v3.5. Download that here
The new Polo Port Opener setup is here. To extract this file you need WinZIP or WinRAR. Then go to the instructions below.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR ROUTER CONFIGURATION IF POSSIBLE.
This is pre-release software, so it doesn't come with any guarantee that it will work in all situations, I have tested it with my own router and it currently works fine. If you are not sure, then *DO NOT* use this software. Also the boxes with your PC IP and Router IP should have the correct values in them, please check these if possible. Here is a quick way to check your IPs.
To use, *make sure your firewall is turned off* (you can turn it back on later), then get the file you had downloaded from above, and unzip/unrar it to your desktop.
You should now have 2 files on your desktop. Double click on setup.exe to install the software.
You will then find a shortcut to Polo Port Opener on your desktop, so double-click that.
NOTE - *IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS VISTA* then open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\polomint77\ thenright click on the Polo Port Opener.exe file, and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR!!!!!!!.
When the program appears, check that the IP addresses correspond to your system and router IPs. If you are unable to do this then don't worry. They should be correct. You could always ask for help in the VP3 Lobby on Gamespy if needed.
Now, all you need to do is click the checkbox that says that you accept responsibility, then click on the Open Ports button.
Now, wait.... When you see a box come up that says "PORTS OPENED" then you may close the program.
VP3 should work fine now, as long as it is allowed through your firewall (if you have one). Don't forget to turn the firewall back on (if you have one).
If any errors appear, you will find a file named log.dat in the application folder. Please email the file to me.
